These two bedroom communities are located in northeast Jefferson County, approximately 10 miles from downtown Louisville just outside of the I-264 loop. Lyndon has a population of just over 8,000 residents. Prospect, which is approximately 10 miles north of Lyndon is home to just 3,000 residents and is just three miles from the Ohio River. The area is home to numerous small communities, some older and some newer, including Graymoor, Devondale, Norwood, Bellemead, Briarwood and others. Lyndon began as a station on the Louisville, Cincinnati, and Lexington Railroad in 1871. It was named Lyndon for Linn's Station, a pioneer settlement nearby. The Lyndon post office opened in 1871 and closed in 1963. Lyndon was incorporated in 1965. Prospect is located in the beautiful green rolling hills in far eastern Jefferson County and far western Oldham County, one of few cities in Kentucky, which crosses county lines. It is a city of spacious homes, beautiful lawns, fine condominiums and a number of businesses in its central village area designed primarily to serve its residents and nearby neighbors. The real estate market features a mixture of historic homes and new developments. Pricing for condominiums and townhouses starts at $70,000 and reaches up to $500,000 and more for larger models with river views. Single-family homes begin in the mid-$100,000s and run up to $1.5 million and more for elegant estates with stunning views of the Ohio River. Land is also available for custom building.
